National Council & Board of Trustees
Unveil New Structure
New York, NY, June 13, 1998 - In order to assure their continued ability to serve the Latino community effectively, La Unidad Latina, Lambda Upsilon Lambda Fraternity, Inc. recently unveiled a new organizational structure designed to improve La Fraternidad's management infrastructure.
La Fraternidad's two major bodies of governance are the Board of Trustees and the National Council. The Board of Trustees is entrusted with the responsibility of strategic planning and the National Council is primarily responsible for administrative operations of the organization. The National Council oversees daily management from the undergraduate to alumni levels, and implements the national policies and procedures devised in conjunction with the Board.
With the exponential growth of the fraternity over the past five years, it has become imperative to increase the resources accessible to the National Council for the number of projects which the National Council oversees and implements.
The Board of Trustees and the National Council have recognized that continued strategic growth in new ways and regions will require greater flexibility and availability within its leadership.
The National Council now consists of the following positions: President,Vice-President, and Treasurer. In addition to these positions, the Board and Council announce new additional roles within its management structure. The position of Director was created to further distribute participation in the leadership and direction of the organization. Six Directors will be responsible for the following areas:
Directors are appointed by the National Council, approved by the Board, and report directly to the Vice President of the National Council. The Director positions report to the National Council and are removed from accountability to the Board of Trustees.Directors are responsible for creating and monitoring their own committees, outlining a strategy that will help them meet the needs of the various members of the organization, as well as gathering as much support as necessary for their projects and initiatives.
The Directorships have been established to allow for flexibility, growth and quicker response to pertinent issues which arise on a day-to-day basis. This autonomous structure will allow for greater opportunity to manage a variety of day-to-day issues as well as overseeing the general direction of the organization over the course of each year.
The Board has also been restructured to give specific offices to several board members, with the remaining board members serving as trustee members-at-large. The positions consist of the Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Secretary, and Financial Chair.
Since the restructuring, La Unidad Latina, Lambda Upsilon Lambda Fraternity, Inc. has been hard at work implementing new initiatives and strategies at all levels of the organization in hopes of furthering its mission to enhance the quality of life of all Latinos.
