| New York, NY - National leadership
representatives from eight Latina and Multicultural Sororities attended
an unprecedented presentation hosted by La Unidad Latina, Lambda Upsilon
Lambda in New York City on Thursday, January 5th, 2006. The presentation
was a kickoff of an assortment of initiatives by La Unidad Latina, aimed
at the issue of gender relations. The Gender Relations Committee (GRC), spearheading this effort, unveiled its proposed plan of action to specially invited guests for their feedback and dialogue. For the GRC, this was the final step before the initiatives are made fully available to the public at an undetermined date. After consideration of the feedback and suggestions produced at the evening’s event, a finalized version of the GRC initiatives will be made available. The GRC is comprised of National Council members of La Unidad Latina, Lambda Upsilon Lambda. Hermano Christian Pena, chairman of the committee, led the evening’s presentation and discussion session. The event concluded with an announcement for a forthcoming event in December 2006, in which an assessment of the GRC and its initiatives will be presented. La Unidad Latina, Lambda Upsilon Lambda Fraternity, Incorporated was established on February 19, 1982 in order to address the shortcomings of academic institutions in meeting and addressing the needs of Latino students in higher education. The creation of the GRC committee was in recognition of pertinent issues facing the Latino and Multicultural communities with respect to representation, identity, and misogyny. The interview is another opportunity for you to really present yourself and outline your background and help to overcome the limitations that the academic scores might represent. Most schools do incorporate interviews as part of their admissions process, but not all do. The GRC committee and the National Council of La Unidad Latina would like to thank the attending organizations that provided enriching contributions: Lambda Pi Chi Sorority Inc., Lambda Pi Upsilon Sorority Inc., Lambda Theta Alpha Sorority Inc., Lambda Theta Nu Sorority Inc., Mu Sigma Upsilon Sorority Inc., Omega Phi Beta Sorority Inc., Omega Phi Chi Sorority Inc., and Sigma Lambda Upsilon Sorority Inc.
