La Unidad Latina’s Immigration Position Leads to Invitation by Univision
Fraternity will Participate in Televised Town Hall Meeting

Washington, DC — May, 2010

On Friday May 14, 2010 La Unidad Latina, Lambda Upsilon Lambda Fraternity, Incorporated will participate in a televised town hall meeting that will be held by the Univision network to discuss Latino community’s views on the government’s progress on immigration reform, Arizona’s recently passed SB 1070 law and its amendments, among other key issues. This unprecedented Town Hall meeting on immigration issues, called "Inmigración: Un Debate Nacional,” will broadcast live on Univision from Miami, Florida and Phoenix, Arizona on Friday, May 14 at 10pm ET/PT (9pm Central).

A delegation from La Unidad Latina will participate alongside some of the country’s most respected figures on immigration law and public policy, representatives of national Hispanic organizations as well as members of groups for and against immigration reform, members of the immigrant community, Arizona state and local government officials, a White House representative, and members of Congress to present diverse perspectives on how this issue touches every corner of America.

In acknowledgment of La Unidad Latina’s recent actions and firm stance in support of comprehensive immigration reform Univision, the largest Latin American television network, invited La Unidad Latina to participate in its upcoming Town Hall Meeting. Last week La Unidad Latina hosted a National Public Forum on the Trail of Dreams movement and in support of comprehensive immigration reform. Subsequently, La Unidad Latina issued a press release urging Congress to take on comprehensive immigration reform and denouncing Arizona State Bill 1070.

"As active and engaged Latino men we cannot afford to stand idly by as one of the defining issues of our generation with far reaching consequences for our entire community and our country is discussed and debated. So we would like to thank Univision for the great opportunity to be part of this momentous event,” said Maxi Arias, National Council President of La Unidad Latina. "We must stand up to help America understand how it treats immigrants and the multitude of ways in which immigrants have made and continue to make America wonderful. Indeed, immigration, with both its opportunities and challenges, is truly at the core of the American experience.”

The town hall event will also be streamed live on Univision.com (keyword: Ley de Arizona) and simulcast on Univision’s sister radio network RadioCadena Univision.
