New York, NY – April 23, 2007 – In light of the recent tragedy that took place on Monday, April 16th, 2007 at Virginia Polytechnic Institute, Omega Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. and La Unidad Latina, Lambda Upsilon Lambda Fraternity, Inc. have launched a 10 day nationwide effort to collect funds that will go to support the Virginia Tech Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund. The 10 for 10 campaign was designed to provide people an avenue to assist the families of the victims and the Virginia community in some capacity. We encourage the generosity of our family, friends, and membership to donate a minimum of $10 towards the cause at any time within the next 10 days. The campaign will begin Monday, April 23, 2007 and culminate on Wednesday, May 2, 2007.

The events that took place have shocked the nation and will never be forgotten. More than 30 students died and many others wounded. We can only imagine the horror that the campus community, students, faculty, staff, and families of victims have been through. As leaders in our community and an organization compromised of college students and graduates, we are committed to do everything in our power to remember and honor the victims of this tragic event. Our goal is to show our solidarity with the Virginia Tech college community via our unconditional support and generosity.

Please note that all proceeds will directly benefit the Virginia Tech Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund to “aid in the healing process and generate financial support.” As a benefactor you will be highlighted in our public quarterly fraternal newsletter for your selfless act.

In addition, La Unidad Latina will host memorial banners at participating colleges/universities across the country to provide community members an avenue to directly express their thoughts, prayers, and condolences for the victims, families, and community of the Virginia Tech tragedy. Once complete, the banners will be sent to the Virginia Tech campus as a symbol of solidarity and hope.
