New York, NY - Earlier this month, Saturday February 17th marked a historical milestone in the history of La Unidad Latina, Lambda Upsilon Lambda Fraternity Incorporated. In the presence of hundreds of friends, family, colleagues, community leaders, and fellow Greek Letter fraternity and sorority members, the Hermanos celebrated their twenty-fifth anniversary of the first chapter being chartered at Cornell University. Guests were treated to the enchanting environment of the Waldorf Astoria in the heart of New York City.

The night featured the reunion of many of the Founding Fathers, and of these men Hermano Hernando Londoño gave a heartfelt keynote address to the audience. His speech relived the modest beginnings of operating an entire fraternity from his aunt’s dining table, and the inspirations that has propelled the organization forward to a nationwide presence.

Award winning educator, author, and activist Pedro Noguera honored the audience as well with riveting words. Mr. Noguera charged the air with his voice laying out the challenges ahead that face the Latino community despite the many recent accomplishments of notable figures in the media. Mr. Noguera set an important tone for the night of stressing the message of staying cognizant and ambitious for the community.

As part of the celebration, the 25th Anniversary Gala Committee acknowledged the Hermanos who contributed to making La Fraternidad what it is today and presented the Top 25 Hermanos of our fraternity’s history.

La Unidad Latina, Lambda Upsilon Lambda Fraternity, Incorporated was established twenty five years ago, on February 19, 1982, to address the shortcomings of academic institutions in meeting and addressing the needs of Latino students in higher education. Founded at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, La Unidad Latina primarily seeks to take a leadership role in meeting the needs of the Latino community through cultural awareness, community service, and promotion of the Latino culture and people.
