On Sunday, June 13, 2004, Rock the Vote and La Unidad Latina, Lambda Upsilon Lambda Fraternity, Inc, will sponsor a voter registration drive in New York City during the Puerto Rican Day Parade festivities. The Puerto Rican Day Parade is an annual event in New York City that estimates about 100,000 marchers and over 3 million spectators to attend the parade.
In an effort to increase the number of Latino voter turnout for the 2004 elections, members from Rock the Vote and La Unidad Latina will target the young college aged participants during the event and will inform them about the importance of registering to vote. During the festivities, volunteers will be at stations passing out informational fliers about voter registration, taking a proactive measure for voter education efforts and empowering young people to create change in their communities and take action on issues they care about.
La Unidad Latina, Lambda Upsilon Lambda Fraternity Inc., is an organization of over 1000 men who believe in the upliftment of the Latino community. The fraternity has chapters at some of the Nation’s top private and public universities. La Unidad Latina and Rock the Vote are committed to the success of this voter registration drive and will conduct several other initiatives throughout the year.
